Research of visual language of weaving and ethnic clothing in a highland Maya community. Interviewed residents in Spanish and Tzotzil; learned to weave using backstrap loom; created photographic record of clothing, weaving, embroidery; assembled collection of handmade textiles for Stanford Anthropology Dept.; post-field report.
4/89-5/90 Robert M. Golden Grant for Arts and Humanities, Produced a year long series of paintings, drawings, and sculptural pieces based on abstractions from landscape, color studies of leaf cuttings. Held an exhibit of these works at Cummings Art Building, Stanford University, May 1990.
6/89-8/89 Summer Fieldwork Project, Department of Anthropology, Stanford University. Plains of San Agustin, New Mexico. Mapped and surveyed surface sections of plains & hillsides for scatters of stone tools and fragments of pottery, to study their manufacture and use.
